FRAUD ALERT:  There are fraudulent websites advertising Weapons Carry Licenses that can be purchased online.  The only legitimate place that you can apply for a Georgia Weapons Carry License is through the Probate Court in the GA County in which you reside.  Any entity or agency, other than a Georgia Probate Court, claiming to offer a Georgia Weapons Carry License is not legitimate.  We offer a convenient online Weapons Carry License application. Within 5 days of submitting the application you must come to the Probate Court in-person to complete and pay for the application (link and more important information posted below).  

You must present a valid photo ID with a current/valid Madison County address to apply for a GA Weapons Carry License.  The application fee for a new license is $78.00.  The cost for a renewal is $30.00 if no more than 30 days have passed since the expiration date.   Applicants must be at least 21 years old and a resident of Madison County, or 18-20 years old if active military and basic training has been completed.  Your photograph will be taken at the time of the application and will appear on your Weapons Carry License.  After application is made and approved, the license will be mailed to you, usually within two weeks after the application is made.  The application process for a new Weapons Carry License takes approximately 10 minutes or less.  The process for renewals takes approximately 5 minutes.  No appointment is necessary and the fingerprinting of new applicants is conducted in our office at the same time you apply.   Applicants may come in to apply Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

****Please note that refunds cannot be given once the application has been submitted, even if the application is denied.  We accept cash, checks and cards for payment.  A processing fee is assessed if a card is used for payment (around $3.50).
